Overstone Grange Farm & Storage

Overstone Grange Farm near Northampton has a pick-your-own pumpkin patch in October and sunflowers in August. Book tickets online in advance.

What you can pick

Overstone Grange Farm is a working family farm just off the A43 between Moulton and Holcot, near Northampton. As well as growing cereal crops, it opens to the public for pick-your-own events at set times through the year.

Each October the farm runs a pumpkin patch across roughly 30 acres with a wide range of pumpkin and gourd varieties. Pumpkins are priced by size, starting at £1. Everyone in a group needs a ticket, except children under two, and these must be booked online in advance as the event sells out. The ticket includes the maize maze and a play patch with a bale tower, sandpits and games. Wheelbarrows are available to borrow. Hot and cold drinks, baked treats and burgers are sold on site, with extra food stalls at weekends. Parking is free in a grass field and toilets, including a disabled toilet, are provided. The picking field is muddy and uneven, so visitors should wear suitable clothing and footwear; a baby sling is recommended rather than a pushchair. Dogs are not permitted, except assistance dogs, and children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult. Cash and card are accepted. The farm also holds a quieter session for visitors with special educational needs.

In August the farm opens for pick-your-own sunflowers, and during the summer school holidays it runs a maize maze. The farm is not open outside these events, so check before visiting.

What visitors say

Autumn means pumpkin picking: a wide range of pumpkins and sizes at prices most find reasonable, with entry at £5 per person and parking included. Children get plenty to do: toasting marshmallows, doughnuts, climbing hay bales and a pumpkin cannon at extra cost. Coffee, pizza, crepes and ice cream are on sale, though some families bring a picnic. Toilets are provided and the staff are friendly and helpful.

Summer brings sunflower picking: huge heads, good for photos, bought and taken home, alongside the maize maze. Booking online is easy, but the sunflowers are picked over quickly, so late in the season the choice is thin. Bring your own cutters for flower picking; the farm charges a deposit for its own. A play patch with sandpits, a builders’ area, a toy tractor and hay-bale climbing suits children from toddlers to about ten.

Seasons and opening times change, so check with the farm before you go.
